The challenges of distance education during the Corona pandemic from the Students Perspective at College of Arts and Humanities at A’Sharqiyah University

This study aimed to reveal the challenges of distance education at A’Sharqiyah University during the Corona pandemic from the point of view of the students of the College of Arts and Humanities. A questionnaire was developed and its validity and reliability were verified. In its final form, it consisted of (29) items. The questionnaires sent to all students in the college and were collected from 299 students. The results of the study showed that the arithmetic averages came at an average level of students’ responses to the challenges of distance education in most of the paragraphs of the questionnaire. Among the most prominent challenges faced by students are the weak Internet, power outages, the large number of activities and projects they are assigned to, as well as the lack of an appropriate environment for learning for some of them. The results of the study also showed that there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level (a ≤ 0.05) between the average students’ estimates of the challenges of distance education due to the variables of the school year, the device used (phone, computer, tablet), place of residence (village, city), and the source Internet (Wi-Fi, mobile phone). As for the variable of the preferred quality of education for students after the end of the Corona pandemic, it was found that there are statistically significant differences at the significance level (a ≤ 0.05) between the average student estimates of the challenges of distance education and in favor of students who prefer direct education in the classroom. In light of the results, the study concluded with many recommendations, most notably the development and strengthening of the Internet in the Sultanate, reducing the activities assigned to students as much as possible, and researching the problem of power outages with the competent authorities in the Sultanate.
